The University Chaplain is responsible for ensuring that the Chaplaincy at Acadia University supports the importance of spiritual growth and maturity within the lives of students, staff, and faculty, as well as all who may join us from the broader community. The Chaplain provides spiritual and pastoral care to students and employees of Acadia University and makes positive contributions to the quality of campus life through campus ministry and outreach. While worship services in the Manning Memorial Chapel are Christian in orientation and ecumenical in their model, the Chaplain provides services to students, faculty, staff and community members, regardless of any particular Christian denomination or faith.
Reporting to the President and Vice-Chancellor, the University Chaplain plays a critical leadership role in continuing Acadia’s historical strength in and commitment to offering support for the spiritual growth and development of students as a vital element of the education of the whole person.
The Chaplain also has oversight for the maintenance and operations of the Manning Memorial Chapel, one of the most beautiful university chapels in Canada and one of the most iconic buildings on the historic Acadia campus.
- The ideal candidate will possess a Master of Divinity degree (or equivalent) and hold credentials with a recognized accrediting body and be an ordained minister in a Christian denomination.
- Have at least 6 years of pastoral and counseling experience working with young people, preferably in a post-secondary environment.
- Clinical training in crisis and clinical counseling.
- Candidates must have a deep sensitivity to the spiritual needs of a multi-faith and culturally diverse community compassionate to the needs of young adults.
- Candidates must be willing to work a flexible schedule with long work hours at times when required to respond to urgent situations that can occur outside daytime working hours.
