Spiritual Care Provider – Owen Sound Hospital- .6 fte
(Permanent Part-Time – .6 fte – 22.5 hours/week)
The Spiritual Care Department at Grey Bruce Health Services is seeking an experienced Spiritual Care Provider to fill a permanent part-time contract position beginning June 1, 2022. The successful applicant will join a small and enthusiastic team in providing 24/7 high quality spiritual care to patients, their families and hospital staff, and will work as a fully participating member of the inter-professional health care team in a variety of program areas. The successful candidate will be contracted with and paid by the Grey Bruce Spiritual Care Council, and will work at the Owen Sound Hospital, Grey Bruce Health Services.
This position includes some on-call responsibilities off hours and weekends as part of an On-call roster.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Providing and promoting high quality spiritual care that is consistent with the mission and values of Grey Bruce Health Services and the Grey Bruce Spiritual Care Council for patients, their family, and hospital staff
- Providing care that is respectful of cultural, traditional, and religious diversity; supporting ethical discussions and difficult decision making by patients, their family and staff
- Actively engaging patients, their families and staff in developing an understanding of the relationship between spiritual, religious, physical, emotional, psychological and mental well being
- Enabling effective team collaboration between and amongst stakeholders and functioning as a full participant on a variety of clinical teams
- Facilitating a variety of staff support strategies nurturing collaboration & supportive communities
- Being available and accessible to patients, family, and staff within the continuum of care, especially those experiencing spiritual distress
- Assessing spiritual and religious care needs and implementing spiritual and religious care plans
- Providing appropriate opportunities for worship, prayer, sacraments, smudging and other rituals
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certified Spiritual Care Practitioner with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (preferred) or in process; and current membership (CASC)
- Undergraduate degree and a Master of Divinity or Master of Pastoral Studies degree or equivalent
- Ability to relate theology and behavioral science to the practice of spiritual care
- Knowledge of various models of spiritual care and their appropriate use in a variety of practice contexts
- Must be able to function as a member of both the spiritual care team and inter-professional teams and capable of working independently
- Clinical experience in an acute care hospital; experience in crisis care, mental health, and end-of-life care an asset
- Excellent communication (verbal/written English), interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills are essential
- Demonstrated proficiency working with computer applications in a Windows environment (Word, email); electronic documentation an asset
- Must have an excellent attendance record
