Permanent Part-Time Position:  .4 fte – 15 hrs/week in Hospice Care, and .6 fte – 22.5 hours/week  at Owen Sound Hospital (see ad further below)

Grey Bruce Residential Hospice-

Permanent Part-Time Position:  .4 fte – 15 hrs/week in Hospice Care

The Spiritual Care Department for the Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce (Chapman House) are seeking an experienced Spiritual Care Provider/Chaplain.  This position is a permanent part-time role beginning January 2020.  The successful applicant will join a small and enthusiastic team in providing high quality spiritual care to residents, families and hospice staff, and will work as a fully participating member of the inter-professional health care team.  At Chapman House, the Spiritual Care Provider will care for up to 9 residents at the end of life while supporting families, friends and staff. The successful candidate will be contracted with and paid by the Grey Bruce Healthcare Chaplaincy Council.

This position includes some on-call responsibilities off hours and weekends.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Providing and promoting high quality spiritual care that is consistent with the mission and values of the Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce and the Grey Bruce Healthcare Chaplaincy Council for residents, families, and healthcare staff
  • Providing care that is respectful of cultural, traditional, and religious diversity; supporting ethical discussions and difficult decision making by patients/residents, families and staff
  • Actively engaging residents, families and staff in developing an understanding of the relationship between spiritual, religious, physical, emotional, psychological and mental well being
  • Enabling effective team collaboration between and amongst stakeholders and functioning as a full participant on a variety of clinical teams
  • Facilitating a variety of staff support strategies nurturing collaboration & supportive communities
  • Being available and accessible to residents, family, and staff within the continuum of care, especially those experiencing spiritual distress
  • Assessing spiritual and religious care needs and implementing spiritual and religious care plans, particularly at end of life
  • Providing appropriate opportunities for worship, prayer, sacraments, smudging and other rituals

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified Spiritual Care Practitioner with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (preferred) or in process; and proof of current membership (CASC)
  • Undergraduate degree and a Master of Divinity or Master of Pastoral Studies degree or equivalent
  • Ability to relate theology and behavioral science to the practice of spiritual care
  • Knowledge of various models of spiritual care and their appropriate use in a variety of practice contexts
  • Must be able to function as a member of both the spiritual care team and inter-professional teams and capable of working independently
  • Clinical experience in a residential hospice care and end-of-life care preferred
  • Excellent communication (verbal/written English), interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills are essential
  • Demonstrated proficiency working with computer applications in a Windows environment (Word, email); electronic documentation experience an asset
  • Must have an excellent attendance record

The successful candidate will be contracted with and paid by the Grey Bruce Healthcare Chaplaincy Council, and will work at the Owen Sound Hospital, Grey Bruce Health Services.
