POSITION: Permanent Part Time Spiritual Care Practitioner

Position Summary:

We are excited to offer a permanent part-time position for a Spiritual Care Practitioner and are seeking a candidate who will be able to work 24 hrs a week with a daily weekday presence. In this regard, the role is to be co-created between the successful applicant and the Manager of Supportive Services. The Spiritual Care Practitioner is responsible for the offering of spiritual and religious care to patients, family members / significant others, volunteers and staff especially where crisis, decision making, and difficult situations arise while in hospital. The Spiritual Care Practitioner facilitates resources in collaboration with other health care providers and community clergy / religious leaders. This position functions as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in the delivery of patient care.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Review patient lists/requests daily; Conduct daily rounds
• Provide spiritual counselling to patients, families and significant others
• Facilitate spiritual, multi faith, cultural practice to promote healing and well being
• Provide support/counselling to staff during crisis situations or where appropriate
• Respond to after-hours on call in collaboration with Casual chaplains
• Communicate with community clergy to provide pastoral services
• Work with patient/family to support acceptance of disability or death when recovery is not possible
• Provide bereavement support

Mandatory Qualifications/Education:

• Undergraduate Degree, Graduate degree preferred
• Completion of at least two Basic Units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or Pastoral Counselling Education (PCE) through the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC), or equivalent training/experience
• Current membership in the Canadian Association of Spiritual Care (CASC)
• Experience in an acute and complex continuing care setting and psychiatric spiritually integrated/pastoral counselling preferred

• Excellent attendance record
• Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team and as an independent professional
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
