POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director for Spiritual Care of the St. Joseph’s Health System, the Spiritual Care Educator is accountable for managing, providing and evaluating programs of Supervised Pastoral Education (SPE) throughout the SJHS in accordance with the standards of the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC).  The Spiritual Care Educator develops curriculum, supervises Spiritual Care residents’ and learners’ clinical work, provides educational opportunities and evaluates residents and learners also ensuring the direct or delegated supervision of Masters level practicum students when receiving these individuals into an education program within the SJHS.   In conjunction with Spiritual Care Educator responsibilities, the candidate selected for this position will be grounded in clinical practice and take responsibility, in consultation with the Director of Spiritual Care, for the delivery of Spiritual Care clinical services as assigned.  The Spiritual Care Educator will work collaboratively with other supervisors and stakeholders in the field in planning, coordinating and administering programs and events to ensure effective and efficient delivery within available resources of the overall training program of the department that are aligned to the priorities and strategic directions of the organization. The Spiritual Care Educator will liaise with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC) and other educational institutions and work collaboratively to optimize learner and resident intake/flow and clinical experience for residents and learners. This individual will also be responsible for the preparation of, and the leadership of the SPE Program Accreditation process in a timely manner. The incumbent is also responsible for promoting the development, facilitation, collaboration and completion of research projects engaged by the Spiritual Care staff and that of residents and learners.  The Spiritual Care Educator is also responsible for the training, ongoing education and ongoing supervision of all assignments of the Spiritual Care Support Volunteers within the Spiritual Care Department.  Participating in the On-Call responsibilities of the Spiritual Care Department will also be an expectation of the person in this role.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters of Divinity or a graduate degree in a related theological field
  • Certification as a Supervisor-Educator with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care
  • Certification as a Spiritual Care Practitioner with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care
  • Registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO)
  • Approved by CRPO as meeting the criteria of a Clinical Supervisor
  • Evidence of on-going education in the field of supervision
  • Minimum of three years recent experience in SPE course leadership

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conceptual Knowledge of Clinical Supervision
  • Will be actively engaged and a participating member of the St. Joseph’s Health System Spiritual Care Community of Practice
  • Aptitude in SPE Program Design, Implementation and Administration
  • Engagement in the Supervision of Individual SPE
  • Facilitation of SPE Group Seminars and Related Activities
  • Experience in program management, evaluation and research related to the provision of clinically based education. Experience working with interprofessional teams.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of current and emerging spiritual health practitioner standards of practice.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge, experience and abilities in supervised practice- based learning.
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal written and verbal communication skills including ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy with diverse groups of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated effective presentation skills including the ability to present and discuss complex information in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others and gains understanding.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued learning and effectiveness in promoting the value of learning and acquiring new information and skills to stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness promoting compliance with professional and ethical practices, accreditation standards, and applicable legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, and the work of others effectively and meet deadlines in a busy environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Demonstrated trouble shooting skills and ability to problem solve issues that may arise in carrying out the duties of this position.
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to health and safety policies, procedures and applicable legislation.
