Island Health is looking for a Spiritual Health Practitioner to join their team in Victoria, BC.
As the Spiritual Health Practitioner, you provide comprehensive spiritual care and emotional support to patients, families and health care staff in a manner that is appropriate to belief systems and cultural diversity. You act as a liaison during crisis intervention and participate in the organization’s clinical ethics discussions/reviews.
You will act as a community liaison, which may include participation in the coordination and supervision of spiritual health volunteers and visitors from various spiritual, religious and cultural groups. You will also participate in orientation and facilitation of staff, community faith representatives and volunteers, and as a member of the health care interdisciplinary team.
As a resource person, you nurture a positive relationship amongst community churches and clergy and the hospital. You coordinate the work and on-going training/supervision of spiritual health volunteers and enable the delivery of pastoral care by members of the multi-disciplinary team through consultation and in-service education.
As the successful applicant, you will have a master’s degree in theology, pastoral studies or spirituality (or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience), plus a minimum of one advanced unit of Clinical Pastoral Education through the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care.
You are able to demonstrate the competencies described by the 2011 Canadian Association for Spiritual Care for a Spiritual Care and Counseling Specialist. You also have ordination or appropriate Ecclesiastical endorsement, or three letters of reference from individuals who can attest to your commitment to a spirituality or religious faith and the ensuing practices which inform your vocational identity as a spiritual care practitioner. These letters of reference will address how you demonstrate accountability to those identified as your spiritual community and will be dated within three months of your application date.
