Reporting to the both the Director of Spiritual Care (Eastern Zone-Cape Breton) the incumbent will provide support to the Palliative Care program and otehr programs/departments as needed:
Spiritual Care Provision in the Palliative Care Program provides spiritual care and emotional support, including exploration of issues that are of meaning and value and/or issues causing moral or spiritual distress to patients, their families, staff, and others. May assist with advance care planning and conduct cultural and spiritual assessments and care plan for patients with advanced serious or life-limiting illness. The incumbent will work closely with the Multi-Disciplinary team in the Palliative Care Program providing both in-patient and community care.
The incumbent will assure Spiritual assessment of patients, families, caregivers and staff in Palliative Care program including inpatient and community based patients; facilitates the development of the individualized plan of care by participating in the comprehensive assessment to meet identified spiritual needs; provides direct spiritual care to patients and families/caregivers; serves as liaison and support to community clergy and faith leaders; maintains records of spiritual care services utilization and related activities for quality assurance; documents direct services and ongoing communication; attends patient care conference and interdisciplinary group meetings as a member of the interdisciplinary team on Palliative Care; provides consultation; education and support to the interdisciplinary group regarding spiritual care and may provide support to the Clinical Pastoral Education Program. Preference will be given to a person who is on the path towards certification as an Educator/Supervisor with Canadian Association for Spiritual Care.
•Master’s Degree with relevant theological, divinity or spiritual studies from a recognized institution accredited by the Association of Theological Schools.
•Completion of at least 2 Basic Units and 2 Advanced Units of Clinical Pastoral Education in a health care setting
•Two years’ clinical experience as a Spiritual Care Practitioner in an institutional setting
•Valid certification as a Specialist in Spiritual Care by Canadian Association for Spiritual Care and/or working towards Educator/Supervisor certification
•Current membership with Canadian Association for Spiritual Care
•Experience working in the context of death and dying and/or palliative care considered an asset
•Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
•Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
•Access to a car as regular travel is required for clinical visit.
•Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours of Work
Permanent Part-Time (30%) Position; 22.5 Hours Bi-weekly;
$24.5264 – $30.6580 hourly
